Market Link Auctions
Privacy policy.
Running a verified auction marketplace means handling sensitive personal information, including identity documents. This page explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how long we keep it. It is published in draft pending final legal review.
What we collect
Only what the platform genuinely needs.
- Account details
- Name, username, email address and contact details you provide at registration.
- Verification documents
- Government-issued identity documents and proof of address, plus the reviewer's decision and reason.
- Business details
- For sellers, entity information supplied when applying for seller access.
- Activity records
- Bids placed, lots listed, outcomes, notifications and settlement records.
- Technical data
- Sign-in events, device and browser information and security logs used to protect accounts.
Why we use it
Verification, auction integrity, and legal obligations.
We use your information to operate your account, verify your identity so you can bid, conduct and settle auctions, prevent fraud, collusion and shill bidding, meet anti-money-laundering and tax obligations, and send transactional messages about your auctions. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use identity documents for marketing.
Who can see what
Bidder identity is never exposed to other bidders.
- Other bidders
- See bid amounts and timestamps under masked labels only. They never see your name or contact details.
- Sellers
- See masked bidding activity during the auction, and the winner's details only after a successful close, to complete the transaction.
- Administrators
- Compliance reviewers can access verification documents. Every document view is recorded in the audit trail.
- Service providers
- Our hosting, database, email and payment providers process data on our behalf under contract.
- Authorities
- Disclosed where the law requires it, or to protect the platform and its users from fraud or harm.
How we protect it
Access is restricted and every access is logged.
Verification documents are held in private storage that is not publicly reachable and is accessible only to authorised reviewers. Database access is governed by row-level security policies, so an account can only reach the records it is entitled to see. Sensitive actions — verification decisions, document views, bid invalidations, cancellations and emergency controls — are written to an audit log recording who acted, when and why.
How long we keep it
Auction records outlive accounts, by design.
Bidding and outcome records are retained as part of the permanent, append-only auction history required for dispute resolution, accounting and regulatory purposes. Identity documents are retained for the period required by applicable anti-money-laundering and tax law and are then deleted. Closing your account removes your profile from public view but does not erase transaction records we are obliged to keep.
Cookies and email
Functional first.
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences and protect the service. Transactional emails — verification, outbid alerts, closing notices and settlement instructions — are part of the service and cannot be switched off while your account is active. Any marketing messages are separate and can be unsubscribed at any time.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, objection.
You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccuracies, request deletion where we are not required to retain the record, object to particular processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Contact us and we will respond within the period required by law. You also have the right to complain to the relevant data protection authority.
