Market Link Auctions
From registration to settlement.
Four steps for bidders, three for sellers, and one set of rules applied identically to everyone. Here is exactly what happens at each stage and what the platform checks before it lets you continue.
For bidders
Verification comes first. Everything else follows quickly.
- 01
Register and verify your identity
Create an account with your email address, confirm it through the link we send, then upload a government-issued ID and a proof of address. Our compliance team reviews submissions and records a decision with a written reason. You can browse and follow auctions while you wait, but you cannot bid until you are approved.
- 02
Explore the auctions
Filter live and upcoming lots by category, auction type, status and closing time, or search by title. Each lot page shows the asset description, photographs, documentation, the starting price, reserve, minimum increment, applicable tax and buyer's premium, and the exact closing time.
- 03
Place your bids
Bid from the auction room. Every bid is checked server-side against the current price, the increment rules and the authoritative clock before it is accepted, and the room updates in real time as other bidders respond. Bids are final — they cannot be edited or withdrawn.
- 04
Complete the transaction
When the lot closes, the platform determines the winner, calculates the total including tax and buyer's premium, and notifies both parties. The winner receives settlement instructions and the seller is put in contact to transfer the asset and its documentation.
For sellers
List once, then watch the market decide.
- 01
Verify, then apply for seller access
Complete the same identity verification as bidders, then submit your business details. An administrator reviews the application before seller tools are unlocked on your account.
- 02
Prepare your lot
Write the asset description, upload photographs and supporting documents, and set the auction type, starting price, reserve, minimum increment and schedule. Your lot is attached to a scheduled auction event.
- 03
Submit for release and follow the bidding
Administrators review the listing before it goes public. Once released, the lot is locked against edits that would change the deal after bidding has started, and you can follow activity live until the lot closes.
The two auction formats
Read the format on the lot page before bidding — the direction of travel is different.
- English (ascending)
- The classic format. Bidding starts at the starting price and each new bid must be at least one minimum increment above the current highest bid. The highest accepted bid at closing wins, provided the reserve has been met.
- Descending (purchasing tenders)
- Used where the seller is buying. Bidding starts at a ceiling price and each new bid must be at least one minimum decrement below the current lowest bid, never falling below the published floor. The lowest accepted bid at closing wins the award.
Timing and the closing minute
The server clock is the only clock that counts.
Countdowns in your browser are a display of the authoritative closing time held by the platform. If a bid is accepted within the last two minutes of a lot, the closing time is pushed out by two more minutes — up to ten times — so that every bidder has a genuine chance to respond. When no further bids arrive, the lot closes automatically and the outcome is written once and only once.
If two bids arrive at the same amount, the one the server recorded first wins. Bids submitted after the closing moment are rejected outright, no matter what a page still shows on screen.
What it costs the winner
Bid, plus tax, plus buyer's premium.
The amount you owe is your winning bid plus value-added tax and the buyer's premium shown on the lot page — 12% and 5% respectively unless the lot states otherwise. The total is calculated by the platform at closing using exact decimal arithmetic and appears in your notification and in your account, so there is no discrepancy to reconcile later.
